UNITED NATIONS MARKS 7 BILLIONTH BABY

GLOBAL POPULATION HITS 7 BILLION
VARIOUS ‘7 BILLIONTH’ BABIES WORLDWIDE
Nigeria (AP) - The United Nations marked the milestone Monday, even though it is impossible to pinpoint the arrival of the globe’s 7 billionth occupant because millions of people are born and die each day.  While demographers are unsure exactly when the world’s population will reach the 7 billion mark, a string of festivities are being held worldwide, with a series of symbolic 7-billionth babies being born.  U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the day was “not about one newborn or even one generation” but “about our entire human family.”  He noted “a world of contradictions” - famine in the Horn of Africa, fighting in Syria and elsewhere and widespread protests against economic inequality.  “Seven billion population is a challenge,” he said, and “at the same time, an opportunity, depending upon how the international community prepares for that challenge.”
The celebrations began in the Philippines, where baby Danica May Camacho was greeted with cheers and flashbulbs at Manila’s Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital.  In Uttar Pradesh, India, officials said they would appoint seven girls born Monday to symbolize the 7 billion.  India, which struggles with a deeply held preference for sons and a skewed sex ratio because of millions of aborted female fetuses, is using the day to highlight that issue.  It is estimated that India has 893 girls for every 1,000 boys at birth, compared with 955 girls per 1,000 boys in the United States.  Meanwhile, China, which at 1.34 billion people is the world’s most populous nation, said it would stand by its one-child policy, a set of restrictions launched three decades ago limiting most urban families to one child and most rural families to two.  This strict family planning policy has helped propel the country’s rapidly growing economy, but it has also brought many problems.

The world’s population is passing the 7 billion mark, but pinpointing which baby born today represents that number is impossible.  As the world’s population surpasses that figure, fears were stirred anew about how the planet will cope with the needs of so many humans.  Material problems can only be solved by Spiritual solutions.  The natural remedy for birth control is sense control.  There is no necessity of unnatural ways of trying to control a natural human urge.  More and more people should take to the spiritual process which can solve so many problems of today.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
Question: Can we control population in a spiritual way?
Answer: It is very easy. To control population, we have to control senses. When we are self satisfied within, then we have control over our senses. When we have control over our senses, we will plan a child only when we want a child. That is the way population is supposed to be controlled, by sense control. Modern methods, far from  controlling the population,  will only disturb the natural balance of the environmental existence. ... And the only way to control our senses is to experience something higher otherwise we cannot give up these mundane pleasures. When we realize the pleasure of the soul and when we experience the sweetness of the holy names then we become indifferent to these materialistic pleasures. If more and more people are educated about sense control and they have experienced these realizations, all problems of the world can be solved. So accept the process of chanting and be a part of the solution.
